I am 30 years old and have experience in the field of counseling and teaching. I have
a bachelors degree in psychology, with a concentration in music. My personal interests include music, film, literature,
philosophy, and the social sciences.
My own spiritual path has been an interesting one. I have studied under different Buddhist
teachers, and have also studied the teachings of other religions. It is my firm belief that every religious community,
when it is committed to practicing its ethical teachings and is respectful towards others, has something of
unique value to add to the world. I therefore believe strongly in cooperation between people of different religions,
and with people of no specific religious belief, rather than competition, dominance, or intolerance.
I was born Roman Catholic and was confirmed when I was 16. I retain some of the
basic Christian ideals of my upbringing, such as selfless love and service to those in need. When I was 21 I took
refuge as a Buddhist. When I was 25 I married into the Islamic faith via a traditional Muslim wedding ceremony called
a "nikah" and have since learned much about this religion. I resonate with esoteric Islam, i.e. Sufism.
People often ask me what religion I am. I know what I believe in, but there
isn't a single label that perfectly fits. Theologically, I consider myself a pan-entheist. There is a quiz on www.beliefnet.com called the "belief-o-matic." It's not meant to be taken too seriously, but I
do think it's rather accurate. According to it, I'm 100% Unitarian Universalist. So if you need a label, you can call me a "Unitarian."
